Prof. Vasilis Ntziachristos
Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI)
HMGU/IBMI is a world-leading expert in fluorescence molecular imaging. IBMI consists of highly motivated and experienced researchers, combining multidisciplinary areas of expertise to guarantee innovative, robust, and impactful research outcomes on both clinical/operational and pre-clinical fields.
Prof. Ntziachristos is a world-leader in biomedical imaging technologies. He has long-standing experience in coordinating national and international consortia, also within the EU framework of H2020. His work is honored and recognized by several awards including the highly-prestigious German Leibniz Preis, Go-Bio Award, Germany’s Innovation Award, three ERC grants and the Gold Medal of the WMIS.
Dr. Wouter Nagengast
Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
UMCG is one of the world leading centers towards translation of innovative optical methods and development of novel optical tracers within TRACER (www.tracergroningen.nl), led by Dr. Nagengast and Prof. van Dam. They designed and validated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering in-vivo and ex-vivo evaluation of fluorescent tracers. The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology holds a manufacturing license for the production, quality control and release of investigational medicinal products, including tracers, under GMP.
UMCG has initiated clinical translation of fluorescent imaging with applications to ovarian, breast, and rectal cancer lesions, dysplastic esophageal lesions and polyps in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) (NCT01972373, NCT02129933, NCT02113202). The multidisciplinary team consists of pharmacists, QPs, biochemists, molecular biologists, clinicians, trial coordinators and biostatisticians. Within the UMCG, Dr. Nagengast, one of the 12 Barrett experts in the Netherlands, leads the development of the FME clinical trials.
Xvue is developing software for real-time video and medical imaging applications for more than 10 years. The engineering team brings high-speed data acquisition and image processing skills that use GPU parallel programming technologies, allowing fast refresh rates on processed images. This expertise has been applied successfully on OCT and MSOT imaging modalities during the last 5 years.
