University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG)
Dr. Wouter Nagengast
Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
UMCG is one of the world leading centers towards translation of innovative optical methods and development of novel optical tracers within TRACER (www.tracergroningen.nl), led by Dr. Nagengast and Prof. van Dam. They designed and validated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering in-vivo and ex-vivo evaluation of fluorescent tracers. The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology holds a manufacturing license for the production, quality control and release of investigational medicinal products, including tracers, under GMP.
UMCG has initiated clinical translation of fluorescent imaging with applications to ovarian, breast, and rectal cancer lesions, dysplastic esophageal lesions and polyps in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) (NCT01972373, NCT02129933, NCT02113202). The multidisciplinary team consists of pharmacists, QPs, biochemists, molecular biologists, clinicians, trial coordinators and biostatisticians. Within the UMCG, Dr. Nagengast, one of the 12 Barrett experts in the Netherlands, leads the development of the FME clinical trials.
